What is your aim with your art work?
With the ‘Tentative Architecture’ series, my aim is to dematerialize architecture and the built environment, making them on-demand and event-based. My overall goal is to create a paradigm shift from what we currently understand and accept our occupied spaces to be, to what they can be–an invisible network of media. There are many other aspects to this series which you can read here: http://www.xarene.com/other_earth
How does your project works?
The Tentative Architecture of the Coastline Inhabitants of Other Earth is a hand-knitted and felted wool sweater embedded with shape memory alloys and galvanic skin response sensors which gauge the wearers body response in relation to it’s environment. The sweater acts as the HVAC(heating, ventilation, air conditioning) units of architecture, aiding in the natural ventilation of the body by mimicking the wearers’ breathing pattern.
Could you describe your process of creation?
I read a lot of French people; I like their abstract way of thinking. When I can’t read any more, I make, taking guidance from what I have read. When I can’t make any more, I read, taking guidance from what I have made.
How long have you been producing digital art?
1996
How do you describe your art as an artist using technology?
The future is now.
What made you choose digital media as medium?
It was inevitable.
Do you have aesthetic concerns while producing your art?
If it’s beautiful, then it’s right. We naturally gravitate towards beauty.
What do you think about the literal and figurative integrations of the human body and technology?
It is inevitable; I embrace it; but I also fear our specie losing empathy. I’m involved with many such discussions here: http://www.spacecollective.org
